6 Gross Grooming Mistakes Your Guy’s Making

men's grooming tips

The men I know fall into one of two camps when it comes to appearance: Some are clueless about grooming; others spend as much time in the bathroom as I do. I’ve found that those in the first group think that asking for advice is girly. If this sounds familiar, do the man in your life a favor and casually drop these grooming tips for men. When he thanks you, pat yourself on the back. After all, who doesn’t love a well-groomed guy?

His way: Licks dry lips
Why it’s bad: As saliva evaporates, it takes with it natural oils, leaving lips feeling more chapped.
Have him try: A clear, unscented lip balm that moisturizes without looking shiny. ChapStick Lip Moisturizer SPF 15  and Aveda Lip Saver SPF 15 are both “unisex” and offer the added benefit of sun protection.

Father and Son

f

When I started reading “Father and Son” I wasn’t too used to the pace of the novel and was dying for things to pick up and progress. But i guess crucial to Brown’s writing is the reconstruction of the surroundings and environment of his characters. Setting plays a big role in this novel and you get an idea of a small town where nothing is really happening except crimes being committed and laws being broken. There is a deep sense of time just passing meaninglessly amid frustration, anger, impatience, and a general sense of boredom and dread. Set against this drab background, however, the characters Brown has created are powerful and moving. We see not just one layer of their characters, but the many other layers and complications beneath the surface, and how alot of their lives have been shaped by events beyond their control, of flukes which seem to have arisen due to rotten luck. Some of their trials mirror our own. From Virgil, we learn that love for a family member never dies no matter what happens. From Jewel, we learn the importance of recognising when it is time to let go and move on, and to have the strength to see it through. From Mary, we learn that sacrifices form part and parcel of true love. From Bobby, we learn decency and understanding. And from Glen, fascinating and unforgettable character that he is, we learn the angst of love turned to hate, the destructive capacity of mankind, and the senselessness of criminal behaviour. The novel highlights the depths humankind can sink to, in the murders committed by Glen and others, but it also uplifts us with a sense of hope when we see the role David is able to play as a link to the disparate members of 3 families. Honest, sincere and moving, I shall look forward to Brown’s other works.

Car show

The 2015 New York International Auto Show opened its doors to the press on Wednesday with a spectacle for petrol-heads. The exhibits were bigger, brasher and bolder than in the past and showcased all of the things car lovers have come to desire.

Subaru showed off a 450 horsepower spinoff of its BRZ, while Honda debuted a new take on the Civic, turning it into something way more sporty than your traditional Mom car. Porsche unveiled its stunning Boxster Spyder and Aston Martin brought a colorful Vulcan.

There were splashy paint jobs, creative carbon spoilers and sleek designs.

Here’s a look at some of the brightest highlights from the first day of the show:

Amazing car can give us so much power.

Subaru’s STI Performance Concept was a striking matte blue car that was just begging to be thrown around a race track. Based off of Subaru’s BRZ, this concept has 450hp.

Baselworld: Swiss elite shrug off Apple smart watch challenge

Geneva, Switzerland (CNN)Browsing the 141,000 square meters of stalls in Baselworld this year it’s hard to make out whether the industry is one step ahead or behind.

Barely a week before the event kicked off, Apple captured world attention by unveiling its eagerly anticipated timepiece, stealing the 90-year old fair’s thunder somewhat.

Ask the chief executives present what they make of the challenge and some shrug apathetically while others become animated about the “opportunities” it creates. Everyone’s strategy seems to be different.

Designer of the Year: J.W. Anderson

Designer of the Year: J.W. Anderson

Portrait:Bjorn Iooss/Trunk Archive

The Irish-born designer Jonathan William Anderson started out studying theater but it was his love of stage costumes that first got him interested in fashion. After attending the London College of Fashion, the 30 year-old debuted his first men’s collection during London Fashion Week in 2008. His first menswear collections featured subtle feminine touches. Whether it was the Rasputin references from his 2008 men show or the interwoven leather patchwork from his 2011 collection, Anderson has always had a knack for mixing gender lines. (He once paraded male models down the runway in patent leather knee-high boots.)

Anderson showed his first women collection in September 2011, which proved that he could liven up a refined aesthetic with subversive touches— like a rubber collar or leather stitching. Soon enough he found fans in everyone from style blogger Susie Bubble to Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Geshquiere. In 2013, LVMH appointed Anderson as the creative director of Loewe, the 168-year old Spanish luxury leather brand. It could have been strange bedfellows, but his debut collection for the house in Paris in September— it was the week’s hottest ticket— didn’t disappoint. The collection featured leather pants, suede dresses, silk knotted tops and linen pants which became must-haves on every editor’s wish list. Not to be outdone, his own collection was just as impressive: there were slouchy pants, sculpted tops, flowing dresses, accessorized with oversized buttons, lapels and big floppy hats. It was whimsical but still moving the fashion conversation. I can’t wait to see what he does next.
