SFW ‘Playboy Now’ app is only here for the articles

19 million people visit Playboy.com every month, 80 percent of which reportedly coming via mobile devices. In response to that demand, Playboy magazine has released a new mobile-centric app that gives its rabid fanbase exactly what they want: Buzzfeed-style listicles and light reading. Wait, what?

The app makes its way into the Android and iOS stores by dropping its famed nude pics — which never would have passed iTunes muster anyway — and focusing on written content instead. “We have a very engaged audience on mobile and about three-fourths comes after 4 p.m. So we are building this optimized experience for these guys who are coming back every day and there are millions of them,” Phillip Morelock, Playboy senior vice president and chief product officer told USA Today. The unfathomably Safe For Work app features a smattering of easy-to-digest content including clever lists, video clips and offbeat news. But no nudity. Seriously, you’ll see more skin on Game of Thrones than you will on this app.

The top 12 tablets you can buy right now

The top 12 tablets you can buy right now

It’s true, we don’t review quite as many tablets around here as we used to, but that doesn’t mean slates have gone the way of the dodo. Microsoft’s new Surface 3 is as much a budget PC as it is an iPad competitor, while Dell’s sleek Venue 8 7000 reminds us that there’s still a place for high-end tablets. Whether you’re looking to update your own slate or pass one on to someone behind the curve, you’ll find a summary of our top picks in the gallery below or you can head to our complete buyers guide for a full rundown.

Oppo’s R7 Plus squeezes a big battery into a slim body

Nope, these aren’t the near-bezel-less phones that Oppo teased us with back in March, but they are still very compelling. Following the super slim R5, the Chinese company has shifted its focus back to specs with two new models: the 5-inch R7 and the 6-inch R7 Plus. For us, it’s really all about the bigger phone: its 7.75mm-thick aluminum unibody manages to pack a generous 4,100 mAh battery, which goes very well with Oppo’s renowned VOOC rapid charging — a feature that’s proven to be faster than most of its competitors’. Not to mention that the device also comes with a single-touch fingerprint sensor on the back, along with an 8-megapixel f/2.4 front imager plus a 13-megapixel f/2.2 main camera with an RGBW sensor (Sony’s IMX278) for better sensitivity in the dark, as well as laser auto-focus and dual-tone LED flash.

A Book DIY Project Your BFF Will Love

It’s starting to feel a lot like fall here in Pittsburgh, which makes me want to sip warm drinks and laugh with my bestie, Alicia. The problem is, she lives across the country, and we don’t get to see one another as much as we’d like. That’s where this project comes in!

With September being National Literacy Month, the ModCloth Charitable Giving Committee hosted a book sale featuring all the thrifted hardcovers we used on our Geek Chic photo shoot back in July. All the proceeds were donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. I’m not an avid reader, but in the interest of helping a good cause, I decided to use one of the books in a new way — as a super-fancy case for a fall mix I’ll send my friend in California. Check out the tutorial, and use your imagination — what other little presents could you package in this clever box? -Marne O., Photo Producer

Supplies:

Old hardcover book (deep enough for a cassette)
Ruler
Scissors
Craft paper (or a paper grocery bag, like I used)
Photo corners
Sharp craft knife
Mod Podge
Sponge or brush
Pencil
Washi tape

Reaction GIFs That Work Overtime

We love versatile styles — pieces that can pull their weight during the work week and fit in flawlessly on a night out with friends. And the same goes for GIFs. These little looping images are the perfect way to add panache to an email or text thread, but what if you don’t want to sweat the storage space to save a gazillion GIFs for every occasion? Focus on ones that do double duty! We found GIFs to suit some familiar work and play scenarios — check ‘em out, and share your fave reaction GIFs (and the moments they capture) in the comments below!

When you’re about to leave the party, but your song comes up on the playlist.

Did You Hear? The Nicolette Mason x ModCloth Collab is Def Happening

If you ever find yourself in a situation in which you get to speak with Nicolette Mason, the voice behind the “Big Girl in a Skinny World” Marie Claire column, then you will undoubtedly be stunned by both her passion and understanding of the fashion game. Mason, a twenty-something Los Angeles native that now calls Manhattan home, has a refreshing voice that’s just as self-aware as it is relevant — her column may address the plus-sized community in theory, but it’s read by all. So it made perfect sense for ModCloth to collaborate with the stylish visionary on a contemporary collection. “We share a lot of the same philosophies when it comes to fashion and body diversity, and as we talked more about the concept, it was obvious that it was a really organic fit both for ModCloth and for my own brand,” Mason told Refinery29 in an earlier interview.

So, yeah. We’re a WEE bit excited over here for the Nicolette Mason x ModCloth 11-piece offering. Inspired by the “All-Girl Gang,” the collection is intentionally all-inclusive and will available from size XS to size 4X in October. Stay tuned, you guys!
